Kwame Akoto Almighty God est né en 1950 dans la capitale Ashanti de Kumasi au centre du Ghana. Il a commencé à dessiner très jeune et a débuté sa carrière à 15 ans, en tant qu'apprenti chez les peintres Mr Kobia et Mr Addai dans le quartier de Mbrom, Kumasi. Pendant 6 ans (1966-1972), ils lui apprennent à décorer les taxis, les camions, et à peindre les enseignes. En 1972, Kwame Akoto Almighty God crée son propre studio de peinture d'enseignes, "Almighty God Art Work", à Suame Junction dans le nord de Kumasi, quartier des garages et réparateurs de voitures et camions. Au début des années 1990, il rejoint la secte pentecôtiste House of Faith Ministries ; il devient alors et reste aujourd'hui un pasteur et un guérisseur de renom.

Kwame Akoto Almighty God réalise toutes sortes de travaux : enseignes de coiffeurs et autres petites entreprises, slogans et noms sur les taxis et camionnettes, portraits sur métal pour la décoration des tombes, etc. L'artiste réalise aussi des travaux plus personnels, peintures à partir de photographies, thèmes chrétiens, portraits de célébrités, etc. Le texte, qui interragit avec l'image et avec le spectateur, tient toujours dans ses travaux une place importante.

L'œuvre de Kwame Akoto Almighty God a été repérée en Europe dès 1980 comme l'une des plus importantes parmi les artistes d'Afrique de l'Ouest. En 1991, il fait partie des artistes exposés par Susan Vogel dans l'exposition "Africa explores" au Center for African Art de New York. Depuis 1995, son travail a été montré dans une trentaine d'expositions collectives en Europe et aux Etats-Unis. En 1993 et 1994, lors de sa deuxième étape autour du monde, Hervé Dirosa a réalisé dans l'atelier de Kwame Akoto Almighty God une série de peintures sur panneaux de bois, ainsi que plusieurs œuvres avec le maître ghanéen. Selon Hervé Dirosa, le travail avec Kwame Akoto Almighty God a eu une influence décisive sur sa recherche d'autres manières de fabriquer des images. Kwame Akoto Almighty God est pour lui "un artiste au talent exceptionnel qui a construit une oeuvre très puissante hors des circuits normatifs de l'art contemporain".

Les œuvres de Kwame Akoto Almighty God étaient présentes dans les expositions "Plus jamais seul - Hervé Dirosa et les arts modestes" à la maison rouge, Paris (octobre 2016 - janvier 2017), et "En toute modestie - Archipel Dirosa" au MIAM, Musée International des Arts Modestes, à Sète (février - septembre 2017). Dans cette dernière exposition, au MIAM, étaient aussi exposées entre autres les oeuvres d'Henri Darger, Hervé Dirosa, Jean Dubuffet, Yayoi Kusama, Judith Scott ou Jean-Luc Verna. Plus récemment, les œuvres du maître ghanéen étaient présentées au Fonds Hélène et Édouard Leclerc (Landerneau, Finistère) dans l'exposition "Cabinets de curiosités" (juin - novembre 2019) et au Musée du Quai Branly dans l'exposition anniversaire "20 ans : Les acquisitions du Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac" (septembre 2019 - janvier 2020).
